Extra or missing cents at checkout
What’s happening (and what’s not)
If you’re seeing an extra cent or a missing cent on a bundle during checkout, it’s almost always caused by rounding when a bundle price is split across multiple items.
Good news: The customer’s final total at checkout is still correct. The “off by $0.01” usually shows up in the item-by-item breakdown (how the total is distributed across products), not in the overall amount charged.
Where you’ll usually notice it
- Shopify cart / cart drawer where multiple items from a bundle appear as separate lines
- Shopify checkout where line items (and sometimes discounts) are shown per product
Why it happens in FoxSell Bundles Plus
FoxSell Bundles Plus supports bundle setups where the final bundle price is computed in real time based on what the shopper selects, including:
- Mix & Match bundles using Fixed Price
- Mix & Match bundles using Dynamic Price (often with a Discount Percentage)
- Mix & Match with Add ons (bundle items + optional add-ons)
When the app (and Shopify) needs to show a per-item amount, it has to split a single total (like $10.00) across multiple products. Many splits produce repeating decimals (like $10 ÷ 3 = $3.3333…), but checkout can only display two decimals. That’s where rounding comes in.
Example: why a $0.01 difference appears
Setup: A customer builds a bundle made of 3 items for $10.00 total, plus 2 add-ons at $5.00 each.
Expected total: $20.00
How the split can look
- Product A: $3.33
- Product B: $3.33
- Product C: $3.33
- Bundle subtotal shown by line items: $9.99
- Add-ons: $10.00
- Shown total: $19.99
That $0.01 comes from rounding each item to two decimals.
How FoxSell handles rounding adjustments
Whenever possible, FoxSell applies a small rounding adjustment so the split adds up exactly to the intended bundle price. For example, splitting $10.00 across three different items:
- Product A: $3.33
- Product B: $3.33
- Product C: $3.34 (adjusted by +$0.01)
- Total: $10.00
This is most noticeable in Mix & Match with Add ons, because add-ons can be optional and pricing is calculated live based on the shopper’s selection.
Cases where a perfect split isn’t always possible
In some scenarios, Shopify’s line-item rules can make it hard to “place” the extra cent cleanly.
- Identical items / same product repeated (for example, quantity-based selections enabled with Enable quantity as an option) can lead to a display where each unit uses the same per-unit value. If the true split would require one unit to be $0.01 different, the UI may still show $x.xx for each unit and appear off by a cent.
What you can do to verify pricing is correct
Open the bundle in FoxSell Bundles Plus and check the Pricing section. Mix & Match bundles can be set to Fixed Price or Dynamic Price (with a Discount Percentage).
FoxSell doesn’t continuously re-check price changes made in Shopify. In the bundle editor, go to Products and click Refresh Prices (top-right).
Open Add On Products, then use the three-dot menu (⋯) and select Refresh Prices.
Run a quick test checkout and focus on the final total. A $0.01 mismatch in the per-item breakdown can happen due to rounding, but the total charged should match the intended bundle + add-ons amount.
If you need to inspect which product price Shopify is using, look for the View Price dropdown beside products (where available) after you refresh.
