Enable tax for bundles

Overview

FoxSell Bundles Plus builds bundles on top of Shopify products. Tax is ultimately calculated by Shopify, based on your store’s tax setup and each product’s tax settings. In most cases, that means you need to ensure the individual products inside the bundle are set to charge tax.

FoxSell Bundles Plus doesn’t create separate tax rules. Instead, it passes bundle items through in a way Shopify can tax them using your existing Shopify configuration.

Enable tax on bundle component products

In your Shopify admin, go to Products and open the product that’s included in your bundle. Scroll to the Pricing section and enable Charge tax on this product. Click Save. Repeat these steps for each product that can appear inside the bundle (all bundle components). If you sell the same item both individually and as part of a bundle, enabling Charge tax on this product keeps tax behavior consistent in both cases.

Confirm your Shopify store tax settings

Even if products are marked taxable, Shopify will only calculate tax when your store’s tax collection is configured.

  1. In Shopify admin, go to Settings > Taxes and duties.
  2. Confirm tax collection is enabled for the regions you sell to.
  3. Verify your tax registrations/locations and rates match your business requirements.
Tax calculation depends on the customer’s location and your store’s tax nexus/registration setup in Shopify.

If tax still isn’t applying

If Shopify only sees a single “bundle product” line item (instead of the underlying items), tax may follow the tax settings of that bundle product.

  • Check that your bundle’s underlying products are marked Charge tax on this product in Products > Pricing.
  • If you’re using features like Bundle Validation (mentioned in FoxSell docs), ensure it’s configured so checkout keeps the correct bundle item details.

This usually means only some component products have Charge tax on this product enabled, or some items are set up as non-taxable in Shopify.

Open each component product in Shopify and confirm the tax setting in Pricing.

This is expected behavior. Shopify calculates tax based on the customer’s address and your settings in Settings > Taxes and duties.
